Every previous assassin basically had 4 eyes, 2 on their back, so they could see everything around them, but it didn't make sense. In Origins you have to move and basically make sure you're not surrounded, just how you would in real life. There is no counter button in Origins. If you simply press the shield button once, it will stay there, so Hold RT. You can't block against some guards. Like the brute and the pikeman. Use A to dodge while in counter stance. Or A to kick while in normal combat stance.
